The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the young males "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated materials including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.

She stated Ruben continued to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

Mrs Prior said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement once more.

She explained the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five children.
