19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with former trainer Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He saved 4 early-game chances in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
