Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials state initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior political figure commented the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
